I have always been attracted to the beauty of watercolors.  Painting with this versatile medium draws me closer to another of my loves – Nature.  Through the process of thumbnail sketches, composition, and color choices, I recreate a location that is meaningful to me.  It is almost as if I inhabit the scene for a while as I work. 

    When painting portraits, I work slowly, becoming intimately familiar with the subject as I proceed.  By laying down multiple delicate layers of pigment, I gradually reveal different aspects of the subject’s personality.  The process of watching the subject emerge from a white sheet of paper is as much fun for me as enjoying the finished project.
